Our Philosophy
With utmost respect for the needs of each person, ECaP’s Professional Training Program is an educational, informative and interactive training opportunity for the development of a comprehensive framework for inspiring and motivating individuals to take an active and meaningful role on their healthcare teams. Each participant (a licensed healthcare professional or a student in the process of attaining an acceptable degree) will become familiar with and begin to integrate “whole person” approaches with the goal of creating, maintaining and restoring internal balance, enhancing quality of life, and promoting healing in mind, body and spirit through evidence-based therapeutic strategies. Learn to Faciliate Support Groups is designed to positively impact the lives of both participants and the patients they serve.

Format
Learn to Facilitate Support Groups is an interactive 2-day training program for health professions who wish to learn group facilitation skills. No continuing education credits will be offered.

Core facilitators include: Barry Bittman, MD, CEO of the Mind-Body Wellness Center and ECaP; Kevin Henry, M.ED, LSW; and guest presenters in multiple mind-body-spirit disciplines. Our program includes a combination of didactic, interactive and experiential approaches. Attendance is carefully monitored and each participant is required to comply with the prerequisites listed below.

Prerequisites

Participants must be:
- licensed healthcare professionals in good standing: physicians, psychologists, counselors, registered nurses or students currently enrolled in a bona fide training program.
- a copy of one’s state license is required. Students must submit a letter or acknowledgement of current enrollment.
- active members of ECaP (if you are not currently a member, a 1 -year professional membership is included)

Completion
After attending our training session and meeting the requirements, each participant will be:
- awarded a certificate of completion
- listed (with licensure and credentials) on ECaP’s official website as an ECaP trained professional for facilitating support groups
- enjoy the opportunity to receive regional referrals from ECaP for patients seeking contacts with healthcare professionals

Please note: successful completion depends on active participation and appropriate completion of all prerequisites. ECaP reserves the right to revoke a certificate based upon state licensing disciplinary actions.

Following completion of the above program, health professionals are eligible to participate in a hands-on experience attending one of our retreats which are offered in the Spring and Fall each year. Prerequisites apply, as follows:

1. Write an overview of insights gained in the ECaP seminar you attended.

2. Critique a research study in the field of mind-body medicine which has been published within the last 4 years.

3. Join a community wellness class (Yoga, Tai Chi, personal growth, weight management, etc.) and participate in a minimum of 6 sessions. Document your impression/critiques and provide an overview of how the classes affected your life and your practice.

4. Create an original 20-minute recorded guided imagery script.

Requirements must be completed prior to participating in a retreat. If you have completed these prerequisites and would like to register for a retreat, please give us a call at 814 337-8192 or email keb@touchstarpro.com
